Westonka School Board
The school board is the governing body of the school district, and the seven board members are local citizens elected to four-year terms. Members are required to comply with laws and regulations enacted by the Minnesota Legislature and the Minnesota Department of Education. The board approves budgets, hires staff, provides facilities, establishes curriculum, determines policy, and generally provides for the educational needs of Westonka students.
Filing to be a candidate for school board in the November 2021 Westonka school board election will open in late July and run for two weeks. The first day to file will be Tuesday, July 27 at the Westonka Education Services Center (district offices). Filing will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10. Candidates may file Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
In order to be a candidate for school board, an individual must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, be at least 21 years old and be a resident of the Westonka School District for at least 30 days by the time of the Nov. 2 election. Prospective candidates need a notarized Affidavit of Candidacy and a $2 filing fee. There is usually a notary available at the district office, however it would be a good idea to make sure before coming in.
Westonka elects half of the school board every two years during an odd-year election. This year filing will be open for three four-year terms. The seats currently held by Brian Carlson, Loren Davis and Gary Wollner will be up for election.
For more information about serving on the school board contact Superintendent Kevin Borg, email@example.com. For information on filing or to confirm a notary will be available, contact Carol Shukle, administrative assistant, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Questions or Concerns?
Before appealing to the school board with an issue or problem, citizens are urged to contact the teacher, then the building principal, then the Superintendent of Schools in order to reach a successful closure to an individual issue. If these procedures are unsuccessful, then arrangements will be made for the concerned party to formally address the school board.
Please call the board secretary at (952) 491-8007 to be placed on the agenda. Correspondence to board members may be sent to individual members or the board as a whole in care of the Superintendent of Schools, 5901 Sunnyfield Road East, Minnetrista, MN 55364.
