  • What is Severely Multiply Impaired?

    From the Minnesota Department of Education: Severely multiply impaired (SMI) means a pupil who has severe learning and developmental problems resulting from two or more disability conditions.

    The team shall determine that a pupil is eligible as being severely multiply impaired if the pupil meets the criteria for two or more of the following disabilities:

    • deaf or hard of hearing
    • physically impaired
    • developmental cognitive disability: severe-profound range
    • visually impaired
    • emotional or behavioral disorders
    • autism spectrum disorders
