Kindergarten Open Enrollment
-
Do you live outside of the Westonka School District but would like your kindergarten student to attend one of our primary schools? You will need to apply for Open Enrollment.
Families of open enrolled students generally provide their own school transportation. There is no tuition charged for open enrollment.
Kindergarten open enrollment applications for the 2024-25 school year must be submitted by Feb. 1, 2024 to be entered into the initial lottery. Applicants will be contacted by Feb. 15, 2024 with an offer for placement. Students not placed will be put on a waiting list. All applications received after Feb. 1 will be placed on a waiting list based on date received.
The waiting list will be reviewed throughout the school year. You are able to join the waiting list at any time and will be contacted if a space opens.

Statewide Enrollment Options Lottery Procedures for Westonka Public Schools Kindergarten
-
All kindergarten open enrollment applications received by the February 1st deadline will be processed through an impartial lottery. Priority placement will be given to:
- siblings of current open enrolled students, and
- children of current/active employees of Westonka Public Schools.
The groups to be processed - in this order - are: (1) siblings of current open enrolled students; (2) students of current/active Westonka Public Schools employees; and (3) all remaining applicants by impartial lottery (MN Statutes 124D.03 Subd.5a). Results will be added to a master list in this same order.
Once the master list is generated, placements are made on a space available basis, in the order generated by the lottery.
Applicants not placed during the initial round will remain on a waiting list. Applicants applying after the February 1st deadline will be added to the waiting list by date of submission.
Current kindergarten numbers for both primary school locations and the waiting list will be reviewed on a regular basis, with placements made as allowed.
If you receive an offer for placement, there will be a deadline by which you are required to respond. If you miss this deadline, the space you were offered will be given to another child from the waiting list. If you decide you are still interested in pursuing open enrollment, you will need to re-apply.
