April 16, 2025 — Westonka music students traveled to Hutchinson High School on April 11 for the Region 2AA Solo and Ensemble Contest, where every student who competed earned a superior or excellent rating.

Band students played with piano accompaniment, or a small group of peers, for adjudicators. Students then enjoyed a short clinic with the adjudicator and earned a rating. All Mound Westonka High School musicians earned superior or excellent ratings, including two perfect “40” scores.

 “These students showed their love of music by signing up to perform extra music, and that energy showed in their performances," said band director Gretchen Chilson. 

MWHS choir students shared five solos and seven ensembles with the judges, who all presented superior ratings.

"Our singers were well-prepared, poised and sang beautifully,” said choir director Kelly Newell. “It was a wonderful evening of music making, filled with Westonka pride!”
