November 15, 2024 — Westonka Bus Service driver Todd Sorvari has been named the November 2024 recipient of the Westonka Way Award. The monthly award celebrates non-licensed Westonka Public Schools staff members who go above and beyond for families, students and other staff—because that's the Westonka Way!

Sorvari has served as a Westonka Bus Service driver since 2019. A nominator wrote: “Todd has driven more than one of my kids for several years, and his arrival is met with excitement each morning because of the daily consistency and calm he provides. My one child is often so eager to see Mr. Todd that he stands outside an hour or more ahead of time watching for the van to arrive!”

“Todd extends care and concern for my kids, and all students who he drives, taking the time to talk with them and get to know them,” the nominator added. “On days that have ended poorly, Todd has taken the time to walk my kids to the front door, to comfort them in their sadness and frustration, and to let us as parents know it was a rough day; in turn, the very next day, Todd is in the driveway with a smile and positive attitude ready to help my kids try again. We are so lucky that as a district Westonka has such dedicated staff that not only do their professional jobs for which they were hired, but go above and beyond all for the benefit of our students!'

On Friday morning afternoon, Superintendent Kevin Borg was joined by Transportation Director Angela Sheridan to present Sorvari with a special plaque and two gift certificates for the Al & Alma’s Signature Sunday Brunch Cruise on Lake Minnetonka.

Jay and Jenna Soule, the owners of Al & Alma’s, have been proud supporters of the Westonka Way Award since its establishment in 2018. With heavy hearts, we share the news of Jay Soule’s passing earlier this week, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Westonka Public Schools will remember and honor Jay’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the community.

The Westonka Way Award will be presented monthly throughout the school year. To nominate a non-licensed employee for the award, please use the Google Form.
