January 20, 2021 — The Grandview Middle School art show has always been a showcase for wonderful artwork and a means for talented students to be recognized and even rewarded for their work. But this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, art teacher Hannah Loucks had to come up with a different option that allowed students to share and receive recognition for their talents without having an in-person audience.
Loucks and Principal Christy Zachow put their heads together to consider display methods, available social media platforms and opportunities to give credit to students.
“Through our collaboration, we came up with the idea for a slideshow for our school's website,” said Loucks.”Parents and community members are able to view student artwork and students can receive well-deserved attention for their hard work.”
For the first trimester, Loucks chose artworks from class assignments that went above and beyond the requirements. “There were so many to choose from, but I decided to go with nine works of art from each grade, since we did not have time to ask for submissions,” she explained.
The artworks are labeled by title, choice of media and artist’s name, and sorted by grade. For the upcoming trimesters, Loucks plans to solicit submissions of personal works to be displayed along with class projects.
