Student Senate Elects Next Year's Officers
The Mound Westonka High School Student Senate is pleased to have wrapped up the 2018-2019 school year, which included many successful events and activities. From the highest-to-date amount of cash raised in the Stuff the Bus campaign benefitting the Westonka Food Shelf to a record number of student attendees at prom, the year ended positively, according to advisor Jamie Harms.

Westonka Friends of the Arts to Present 'A Day of the Arts'
The Westonka Friends of the Arts are thrilled to be supporting this summer’s production of “The Music Man” and look forward to introducing it to the community as part of a special event. A Day of the Arts, focusing on a broad range of music styles, including musical theater, will be presented from 1:45 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Westonka Performing Arts Center.

Shirley Hills Recognized for Achieving Positive Student Outcomes
Shirley Hills Primary School has been recognized for achieving Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Sustaining Exemplar status through the Minnesota Department of Education. Shirley Hills was one of only 71 schools in the state recognized this year for completing PBIS implementation and continuing to achieve positive student outcomes.

Legion Chooses Representatives for Boys and Girls State
Six Mound Westonka High School juniors have been selected by the Minnetonka American Legion Post 398 and Auxiliary in Mound to represent the Westonka community at the annual Boys and Girls State Conventions. Grace Hanson, Taylor Hollins, Morgan Mullins and Maddie Steahl will attend Girls State at Bethel University June 9-15 in St. Paul. Boys State will take place at St. John’s University in Collegeville the same week, with Connor Prok and Robby Brustad representing the community.

Fourth-Graders Make Memories at Wolf Ridge
In what has become a rite of passage, Westonka's fourth-grade students, along with a group of staff and parents, recently spent an exciting week at the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Finland, Minnesota. This year, Shirley Hills students visited Wolf Ridge May 13-17, while Hilltop fourth-graders made the trip May 20-24.

MWHS Choir Performs at Paisley Park Studios
A group of choir students from Mound Westonka High School recently got the chance to do something most performers only dream about - sing at Paisley Park. On May 23, 48 students in the Bel Canto and Cantabile choirs toured Prince's creative complex in Chanhassen and were surprised with an invitation to perform in one of the most legendary studios in music history.

Class of 2019 Celebrates Achievements
Amid pomp and circumstance, the 175 members of the Mound Westonka High School Class of 2019 graduated May 26 during the school’s 101st Annual Commencement Ceremony. With a bright future and a wide range of plans ahead of them, the Class of 2019 graduates celebrated the culmination of years of hard work and dedication as they accepted their diplomas in front of family, friends, teachers and school staffers.

Shirley Hills Second-Grader Earns Statewide Anti-Bullying Award
Shirley Hills Primary School second-grader Kaia Kallestad received a statewide honor this week from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center for helping to make the world a kinder place. She was presented with the 2019 Faces of Change Award at PACER’s Unity Awards banquet, which was held May 22 in Bloomington.

Due to inclement weather, the Westonka 5K FUNd Run scheduled for Saturday, May 18, is NOW CANCELED. Those who registered for the event should pick up their event packets and T-shirts today, Friday, May 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the north entrance of Mound Westonka High School.

Westonka Summer Institute to Return to Costa Rica in 2020
Westonka Summer Institute, the district’s credit-bearing immersion program, will return to Costa Rica in the summer of 2020. Mound Westonka High School chemistry and physics teacher Sarah Morinville will lead the WSI Costa Rica Experience June 5-20, 2020, in partnership with Seeds of Change, Inc.

Shirley Hills Fourth in State in 'Pennies for Patients' Fundraiser
Congratulations to Shirley Hills Primary School students, staff and families for collecting the fourth-highest amount of the more than 850 Minnesota schools that participated in the “Pennies for Patients” campaign this year. As an incentive to donate, Principal Scott Eidsness agreed to camp out on the roof of the school, and he invited Shirley Hills families to join the campout.

Westonka DECA Sends Large Contingent to International Conference
Mound Westonka High School sent 19 students to the 2019 DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando, where over 22,000 business and marketing students competed for elusive glass trophies, each recognizing a Top 3 placement in the world. MWHS had the second-highest contingent of Internationals competitors of any Minnesota school this year.
