Early Learning Announcements

  • 2020-21 Westonka Community Preschool 

    Attached is all the information you will need to know in order to register for preschool at Westonka.

    Here are Important Dates to Keep in Mind:

    • December 16-February 5 - Turn in your paperwork to either the Early Learning Center or the Shirley Hills Early Learning site. The following forms need to be completed and submitted prior to approval of your child's preschool contract.
    • January 15 - Parent Information Night at 6:15pm in the Hilltop Media Center.  Please enter through the Early Learning Center doors.
    • January 22 - Online Registration opens at 8am.
    • January 29 - Preschool contracts for current preschool families, ECFE weekly class families and district staff begin to be approved in the order in which they were submitted if all forms are completed and turned in.
    • February 5 - Preschool contracts begin to be approved in the order in which they were submitted if all the forms are completed and turned in.

  • Westonka Ranks Among Best School Districts in Minnesota

    Westonka Public Schools is once again ranked among the top school districts in the state, according to data recently released by ranking and review website Niche. In the 2021 “Best School Districts in Minnesota” list released in October, Westonka ranks 13th out of 351 Minnesota districts.

  • Quarter 2 Distance Only Registration Open Oct. 5-19

    Registration for the Distance Only Option through Westonka Public Schools for the second quarter of the 2020-21 school year will open on Monday, October 5, 2020, and will close at noon on Monday, October 19, 2020. All families who are choosing the Distance Only Option for quarter 2 need to register in Skyward Family Access. This includes students who chose the Distance Only Option for quarter 1.

  • Nominations Open for 2021 Westonka Teacher of the Year

    Westonka Education Minnesota is excited to present the Westonka Teacher of the Year program. WEM will be collecting nominations from staff, students, parents and community members. Nominations for the 2020-2021 award are now open and must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 30.

  • Cities of Mound, Orono Reallocate CARES Act Funds to Support Local Schools

    The City of Mound and the City of Orono both recently passed resolutions authorizing the reallocation of local Coronavirus Relief Funds to the Westonka School District. On Sept. 14, the City of Orono allocated $105,584 in CARES Act funds to Westonka Schools, and on Sept. 22 the City of Mound approved $500,000 in additional funds to support the district.

  • District Receives Donation of Over 1,500 Face Shields

    In addition to Chromebooks and classroom materials, Westonka Public Schools was tasked this summer with quickly acquiring a new type of school supply: personal protective equipment. This included stockpiling face masks, which are required in all Minnesota school buildings this fall, as well as face shields, which are primarily used as eye protection for the wearer. Prior to the start of school, Westonka parent Charlie Schupp and Woodchuck Medical contacted Westonka Schools with a generous offer to donate over 1,500 student face shields.
