English learners (ELs) participate in the language instruction educational program (LIEP). The goal of the program is to help EL students learn English so that they can succeed in school and graduate with their peers.
English learners focus on developing academic English in four areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The program is tailored to the educational strengths and needs of each English learner. The amount and scope of the EL service are adjusted to the student's English language proficiency level determined by the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) ACCESS 2.0 test. It provides an accurate measurement of academic language proficiency for English learners.
