Reviewed: January 8, 2024
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines to supervisors in the hiring of support staff in an overtime, overload or substitute capacity. Successful implementation of budget control requires that all financial obligations incurred by the district have proper pre-authorization.
II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY
When a supervisor has determined that overtime, overload or substitute support staff is necessary, the procedure outlined below should be followed.
III. PROCEDURES
- Determine staffing requirements in relation to length of assignment, skill level or qualifications required, budgetary constraints, and other significant factors.
- The request will be submitted to the Superintendent for review.
- The Superintendent will share his decision with the supervisor. When applicable, the hiring process will follow the guidelines in the collectively bargained agreement.
- In emergency situations, supervisors may exercise judgment in obtaining overtime, overload, and substitute support staff without pre-authorization.
