POLICY 4150: EMPLOYEE ABSENCES
Reviewed: December 5, 2022
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to set expectations for employee attendance.
II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY
Regular attendance is required of all employees. It is essential that all employees work the specific amount of time in the employee’s contracted work day.
III. IMPLEMENTATION
- All staff in a building are required to work the daily hours established by their supervisor. This enables parents, students, and other district staff the opportunity to meet during these designated times.
- No employee may arrive late or leave school during working hours without obtaining permission from the principal or designee.
- Exceptions:
- In case of accident or illness of an emergency nature where seeking permission is not practical.
- Employees whose regular approved duties require them to leave the school frequently.
- Paid Leave Time: An employee must have accumulated leave time available and have complied with the union contract agreement to earn paid leave time.
- Employees may be subject to disciplinary action if:
- the employee is absent without permission or explanation satisfactory to the supervisor and/or
- the absence is not in compliance with the intent of negotiated language.
- In requesting and taking any leave of absence, it is the employee’s responsibility to understand the leave provisions in their contract and to be aware of their accumulated available leave time. The employee must understand that pay will be deducted if the employee has exceeded the accumulated available leave time and/or has not complied with the intent of the contract.
- It is the responsibility of the supervisor to evaluate each leave request based on maintaining building staff coverage (having enough staff/lack of subs, need to work) and contract language. Employees violating this policy will be subject to disciplinary measures.
