September 23, 2021 — Homecoming 2021 was a week to remember. From the coronation of Homecoming Queen Ellerie Anderson and King Jake Dallman on Sunday to the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night, enthusiastic crowds and events designed for the entire community contributed to an exciting week.
The annual alumni breakfast on Friday morning attracted alumni from generations of Westonka classes to reminisce and share their stories. Alumni enjoyed breakfast, a photo montage of classes through the years, as well as some student and alumni speakers.
“Thanks to Mark McIlmoyle, Jeff Peterson and Megan Quinn for the continuation of what has become our newest tradition – the Alumni Breakfast!” said Assistant Principal Marty Fischer. “It was great to see so many alumni return to visit MWHS and be a part of this special place.”
Westonka’s athletic teams hosted neighboring schools during the week, while students in each of the schools took part in daily dress-up days and other activities. Friday was a day of celebration as students throughout the district wore their White Hawks apparel and participated in the parade and pre-game festivities. Entire families gathered to watch the many different participants in the parade, from groups and activities within Westonka Schools, to businesses in the Westonka community.
“It is just awesome that we could all be together again during Homecoming this year!” said Fischer. “The energy and enthusiasm from our students and the community was incredible. We were able to continue some amazing traditions – dress up days, coronation of our court and king and queen, the parade, the carnival and tailgating before the football game - all complete with a Homecoming Dance outside under the moonlit sky!”
Student Senate members and advisors Jamie Harms and Dale Kimball put many hours of service into making Homecoming Week truly memorable for all. Fischer offered a “big shout out” to Student Senate for their “tireless work” in pulling off all of the Homecoming activities.
