May 11, 2023 — Teacher Appreciation Week is designated during the first week of May as a time to honor the individuals who lend their passion and skills to education. At Westonka, each school celebrated their special teachers and staff members in their own unique way.
“The extra efforts and relationships you have provided your students do not go unnoticed and I cannot thank you enough for all you do,” Superintendent Kevin Borg wrote in an email to staff. “We are incredibly fortunate to have truly exceptional educators at Westonka Public Schools.”
The Hilltop PTA once again went above and beyond to celebrate their teachers and staff. Each day was a fun theme throughout the week. The week started out with tulip sales for students to purchase to share with a teacher or staff member. With a combination of delicious treats, coffee and beverages, thoughtful thank you notes, and gift cards, everyone felt truly appreciated and loved. “We love our PTA!” said Principal Mike Moch.
Shirley Hills’ teachers were treated to lunch by the school’s paraprofessionals. School announcements featured appreciation messages during the week and staff members received individual cards from administrators. “The PTA provided breakfast for all staff members on Friday to wrap up a fun week,” said Principal Scott Eidsness.
The Grandview PTO sponsored a luncheon for teachers and staff, while the student council provided donuts and ice cream. Principal Christy Zachow said the staff really felt appreciated by the end of the week.
Teacher appreciation activities at MWHS were put together by the Friends of MWHS, led by parent Jennifer Velarde and other parents. “We are incredibly thankful not only to have amazing teachers and staff, but also for the support of MWHS families,” said Velarde. “It is their donations of time, money, and items that makes this week possible.”
Friends of MWHS, with the help of many donations from parents, had a weeklong celebration of the school’s amazing staff. The week started with a popcorn buffet, followed by a grab-and-go breakfast, then came a sweet day of decadent desserts. Staff celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a nacho bar. Prize drawings were held to wrap up the week.
“I heard from so many staff how much they felt appreciated,” said Assistant Principal Marty Fischer. “Friends of MWHS really personalized the week by providing a great variety of things to look forward to each day.”
Thank you to all of Westonka’s hard-working staff members!
