May 21, 2020 — There was a minor traffic jam in downtown Mound Thursday morning. Turns out it was a crowd of hungry readers from Hilltop Primary School lining up for a pancake breakfast at Scotty B’s Restaurant. Each year, Hilltop celebrates students who reach their reading goals by hosting a breakfast at school put on by Scotty B’s. But with distance learning in place this year, they had to get creative.
“Scotty invited us to do a drive-through pancake breakfast and it was a big hit,” said Principal Mike Moch. “We were excited to celebrate over 40 of our top readers!”
Cars lined up in both directions to access a “drive-through” lane where Moch and Hilltop teachers served students a pancake breakfast to-go, along with medals and trophies for reading.
“Students earned medals for reaching their goal and a trophy for earning more than 250 points,” Moch explained. “It is a huge accomplishment and takes a ton of reading to reach that goal!”
Students enjoyed their breakfast in their cars, on the curb or at one of the new picnic tables in front of the restaurant. “Thanks so much to Scotty B’s for helping to make this a special day for our students,” added Moch.
