May 9, 2019 — Mound Westonka High School Student Senate hosted the 15th and final White Hawks Dodgeball Tournament this year.

“Student Senate is so thankful to all the teams that participated this year and over the past 15 years for making this tournament a success,” said advisor Jamie Harms. “We couldn’t have done it without support from administration and our staff.”

The tournament, which included 13 teams, was held on April 24 in the MWHS gym. All MWHS students, staff, and parents were invited to participate. According to Harms, Student Senate feels that the tournament has run its course and instead hopes to host a first-ever Survivor Week next year.

Capturing the trophy and championship title for a back-to-back reign was Team Oftedahl. Students on this team included seniors JP Oftedahl, Nels Larson, Andrew Abegglen, Cole Kahmeyer and Sam Dufault, and sophomore Santi Phommahaxay.

The fight for the trophy did not come without some solid competition. Team Prok went undefeated in the double elimination tournament only to be upset by Team Oftedahl in the finals, when they went head-to-head for two games.

Team Oftedahl was awarded the traveling dodgeball trophy, and each member of the team was able to sign his name as part of the legacy. The champion team also took home a cash prize, T-shirts and bragging rights for the rest of the year.

Team Mack was named as the best dressed team for the tournament. Comprised of softball players, Team Mack members played in full uniform, including face masks.

Staff members helped emcee, referee and manage the event.

“The teams this year went down in history as the 15th and final year of the great White Hawks Dodgeball Tournament,” said Harms. “Each team played hard and showed great sportsmanship!”
