May 8, 2019 — Mound Westonka High School juniors and seniors were invited to step “Into the Woods” for Prom 2019 on Saturday, May 4. Student Senate worked for months designing, painting, crafting and building a set to transform the MWHS gym into a walk through the woods. Families, friends, and students filled the bleachers to watch the grand march and coronation, which culminated with the crowning of Prom Queen Lily Ness and Prom King Shane Stevenson.

Other members of the prom court included seniors Andrew Abegglen, Sam Dufault, Alex Farwell, Ethan Fetters Vandenheuvel, Ethan James, Emma Jordahl, Lauren Kelly, Josh Leech, Melanie Musselman, Lilli Roehrig, Taylor Smith and Madi White.

Following coronation, a record-setting 281 guests headed to Gale Woods Farm, a first-time venue for the prom. The space was decorated beautifully, thanks to Amanda Ficek with Mama’s Happy, who fearlessly took on the task of decorating and transforming the event barn.

“We got such positive feedback from students and the community about the new venue,” said advisor Jamie Harms. “We were so happy to have support in making a change this year.”

Students took pictures overlooking the lake, played lawn games and socialized while being entertained by a student band consisting of seniors Nick Drilling, Tia Meyer, Sarah Brammer, Emma Jordahl, Gunnar Patton, Jacob Rosseto and Megan Larson, and junior Connor Prok.

Dinner was “food truck fare” catered by D'Amico Catering of Minneapolis. Choices included orzo pasta salad, Thai green curry vegetable rice bowl, beef short rib sliders, pulled chicken tacos and Cuban sliders, followed by white chocolate dipped blondie pops and malted milk doughnut sliders for dessert.

Students danced to DJ Matt Kallas and enjoyed a bonfire outside to finish off the evening.

“As advisors, we couldn’t be more proud of Senate and the work they accomplished this year,” said Harms. “Gale Woods staff members commented many times how respectful and kind our student body was and we walked away feeling incredibly humbled.”
