Borg Report June 5, 2025

We had a wonderful (and dry!) commencement ceremony on Monday night as we celebrated the Class of 2025 and ushered them into the next chapter. You can watch a recording of the graduation ceremony on YouTube.

As summer vacation kicks off for our students, Westonka Public Schools is ramping up for a busy and exciting few months ahead. Please read some end-of-year updates:

School Name Changes - Effective July 1, our new school names will officially take effect:

• Grandview Middle School will become Westonka Middle School
• Mound Westonka High School will be known as Westonka High School

We believe these updates will bring greater consistency and create a sense of unity across our schools and community. By aligning the name changes with ongoing renovation work, we will be able to implement the new names with minimal additional cost. However, this means that some signage at the high school will remain unchanged until later in the construction timeline.

New District Website - Also in July, we will launch a redesigned district website. The new site is built to enhance the user experience and make it easier for families, students, staff and community members to access important information.

High School Tennis Courts - Final surfacing of the new high school tennis courts is now underway, and we expect the courts to be playable later this month, weather permitting. Stay tuned for details about a community pickleball introduction later this summer, as well as a formal ribbon-cutting with our high school tennis teams at the start of the fall 2025 season.

High School Redesign - Construction on the redesigned Westonka High School began in April 2025 and is expected to be completed by fall 2026. This transformative project will redesign nearly the entire school, optimizing spaces to better meet the needs of today’s students. This summer, we will begin the first three phases of construction, including the northwest addition and a remodel of that area’s academic wings. Look for additional construction updates in early August regarding the start of the 2025-26 school year.

Middle School Construction - Construction at the middle school started this week and will finish in August. Construction work includes:

• Safety & Security: A new secure main entrance, enhanced lockdown capacity, and relocated main office.
• Facility Upgrades: New lockers, kitchen air handling unit, and water softener.
• Upgraded Spaces: A renovated media center, updated cafeteria, and a refreshed small gym.
