A Historic Groundbreaking Ceremony
Borg Report April 3, 2025
The Westonka School Board breaks ground April 3, 2025 on the high school redesign project
Westonka Public Schools celebrated a significant milestone this week—the groundbreaking ceremony for the high school redesign project! The event, held Thursday afternoon, officially marked the beginning of what will be an exciting journey for Westonka’s students, staff, and community.
It was inspiring to see so many people from our community come together to celebrate this momentous occasion. School board members (past and present), faculty, staff, parents, students, and other community members gathered to witness the start of this transformative project. Interactive stations allowed attendees to engage directly with representatives from Wold Architects & Engineers and Kraus-Anderson Construction, who shared valuable insights into the design and construction process.
With construction now underway, we are looking forward to a complete redesign of what will soon become Westonka High School, which will take us all the way through fall 2026. The project includes renovations to the entire building with the exception of recently renovated spaces (business education classrooms, the Transition Plus program, locker rooms), as well as added square footage.
Trusted Partnerships for Success
We are incredibly grateful for the longstanding working relationships we’ve built with Wold and Kraus-Anderson over the years. Since 2011, these companies have been integral in supporting the district’s vision, and we have confidence in their expertise. They have successfully completed hundreds of projects with Minnesota school districts, including Westonka’s districtwide maintenance and security projects, as well as the construction of the Westonka Activity Center and Westonka Performing Arts Center. Their thoughtful design work, extensive knowledge, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safety are just a few of the reasons we continue to turn to them for our most important projects. We are excited to continue this partnership as we bring this vision to life.
Ensuring Safety and Uninterrupted Learning
Phase 1: Northwest Addition (April 2025-August 2025)
As we move forward with the high school redesign, we are committed to ensuring a smooth, safe and uninterrupted learning environment for our students. Phase 1 of the project, which involves adding space to the northwest corner of the building, is now underway. This addition will allow classrooms to be appropriately sized. We are taking steps to prioritize safety and minimize any disruption to learning during this phase of construction.
In Phase 2, which will start once school is out, extensive renovation will begin of existing learning spaces in the lower and main levels. Next school year, as phases progress, new areas will open up. The new science and math classrooms will be among the first to be completed and are set to open next fall. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this exciting transformation. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us create a school environment that will serve generations to come.
We are continually grateful for the community’s support of this project. Your investment in our schools makes it possible for Westonka to elevate the potential of every student. We are eager to watch the transformation unfold, and we look forward to sharing more updates along the way!
Sincerely,
