Exciting Changes Ahead: Crews Prep for Spring Construction at High School

Borg Report March 13, 2025

As we prepare for spring and summer construction at the high school, we want to share some important updates regarding changes you will notice on campus after spring break. Because we know the high school building is heavily used by students and community members of all ages, we are sharing this message districtwide.

Fencing and Staging Area: Over spring break, March 21-30, fencing will be installed around the north side of the high school to secure the construction zone. Additionally, the southern three (old) tennis courts will become a construction staging area. Students and visitors will be able to park and enter the building as they currently do. Please follow all signage when on campus and stay out of fenced-off areas.

Temporary Walls in Classrooms: To prepare for construction, temporary walls will be installed in main level and lower level classrooms on the northwest side of the high school building. While this may alter some classroom configurations, it will help ensure the safety and organization of our learning spaces during the construction process.

Contractors on Campus: Beginning after spring break, construction teams and utility trucks will be on campus. The vast majority of work will be contained to the northwest exterior of the building, and contractors will be separated from our student learning spaces. All workers will have passed the required background checks, and we are taking every precaution to ensure our building is safe, secure and operating normally.

More important updates

Other Construction - Construction at the middle school (security improvements and related renovation) is scheduled to start in June 2025. Deferred maintenance projects at Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools are scheduled for summer 2026, and the high school stadium project is targeted for spring/summer 2026. Please watch for more updates in the Borg Report in the coming weeks.

Westonka High School Groundbreaking - The community is invited to a special groundbreaking ceremony for the redesigned Westonka High School on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Join us at 4:00 p.m. on the north side of the building for a fun event, including music, light refreshments and interactive stations highlighting the transformational facilities project.

New Tennis Courts - The new high school tennis courts (also lined for pickleball) will open this spring for school and community use once temperatures allow for final surfacing. Save the date for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new courts on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we embark on the exciting high school redesign. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,

Kevin Borg, Superintendent
