March 25 Superintendent's Update on COVID-19

Dear Westonka Families,
On Wednesday, March 25, Governor Tim Walz issued a “Stay at Home” executive order for the State of Minnesota beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 27, through Friday, April 10. This means that most Minnesotans are expected to stay in their homes for two weeks, leaving only for food, medicine, outdoor exercise and other essential services.
The governor also announced today that Minnesota schools will remain closed and will implement distance learning March 30-May 4.
Per the governor’s order, Westonka Public Schools has made key changes to its schedule and operations.
Buildings Closed - All Westonka Schools buildings will be closed to students and the public March 25-May 4, with the exception of the emergency childcare program. Employees who are essential to continuing district operations will report to buildings. This includes mandatory custodial/facilities, food service and childcare staff.
After-school and evening activities and community education classes are canceled until further notice. Adventure Club will remain closed through May 4. The Westonka Activity Center is also closed until further notice.
Food Support & Emergency Childcare - The district’s food support and emergency childcare programs will resume on Monday, March 30. More information on these services will be posted this week to the district website, www.westonka.k12.mn.us/covid19.
Distance Learning Starts Monday - Westonka Public Schools will begin distance learning for all grades on Monday, March 30. Distance learning plans are now posted on the district website, www.westonka.k12.mn.us/distancelearning. Watch for more details to come this weekend from building principals and special education case managers in preparation for Day 1 of distance learning. The governor has scheduled distance learning to run through May 4; however, we know circumstances change constantly, and we will continue to provide regular updates to staff and families.
If your student is experiencing difficulty with any of the online tools, logging into a specific app or connecting to your wireless internet, please fill out the Parent/Student Tech Support Ticket. A Westonka support person will contact you between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
