May 8, 2025 — Mound Westonka High School is proud to name seniors Cole Drill and Cole Munsterteiger as the 2025 male recipients of the Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Award. This year’s voting resulted in a tie, meaning both young men will be honored with the school's top athlete award.

The award began as the Yost Award in 1953, honoring the late Frank Yost, a local pharmacist and ardent community sports supporter who died in 1952. In 1994, the award became the Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Award to also honor the memories of Oscar Haddorff, who died in 1970, a year after retiring as a 25-year MWHS teacher, coach, and athletic director; and Cory Leopold, a 1988 MWHS graduate and standout high school and college wrestler who was killed in a car accident in 1993. The scholarship component was added to the award at that time and is given each year to the school’s top male and female athletes.

Cole Drill

Drill set multiple records on the gridiron, including being the only player in MWHS football history to amass 2,000 career passing yards and 1,000 career rushing yards. He also set the school record of five passing touchdowns in one game in his senior season. Drill received All-District honors, Team MVP, Team Weightlifter of the Year, and was named to the 2024 Academic All-State Team.

Drill’s favorite sporting moment was beating Delano in sections his senior year. After hearing some negative comments from the opponent about his leadership abilities, Drill didn’t respond, but let it fuel his fire. “I went on to have one of the best games of my career as I led the team to a dominating win,” he said.

In basketball, Drill received All-Conference honors and was named to the 2024 Academic All-State team. During the spring season, Drill received an All-Conference Honorable Mention in baseball.

In addition to holding several places in the weight room at MWHS, Drill is competing in men’s volleyball in his final semester of high school.

“The reason I played three sports every year of high school was because I got to build relationships with three different groups of people,” said Drill. “All the memories we have shared will be with me for the rest of my life, and I am forever grateful for them.”

Cole Munsterteiger

Munsterteiger excelled on the wrestling mat, compiling a 198-44 career record, second all time in school history. He is a five-time state entrant, earning fifth and sixth place finishes. He earned four All-Conference honors and one Honorable Mention. He was one of eight statewide winners of the MWCA scholarship his senior year, after earning Academic All State the year before. A six-time letter winner and two-time team captain, Munsterteiger was named MVP his senior year.

Munsterteiger took special pride in being a two-time Leopold-Haglund Invitational champion on the mat, honoring two of the men for whom the award is named. He was also proud of his leadership, mentoring a fellow wrestling and ultimately helping him reach his goal.

“This moment was so fulfilling for me because I spent many days throughout the summer and during the season working with him on improving his craft in the wrestling room,” said Munsterteiger. “This experience showed me that I could make an impact outside myself and truly make a difference in other people’s lives.”

As captain of the football team, Munsterteiger led the team in interceptions his junior season and was second in tackles his senior year. He received All-Conference Honorable Mention his senior year, along with winning the 100 Percent Award. On the baseball field, Munsterteiger was named captain for his junior and senior seasons and earned the Charlie Hustle Award twice.

“I am extremely proud that I was able to contribute to three different programs throughout my high school career, while still being able to achieve my goal of becoming a Division II student-athlete, as I committed to wrestle at Southwest Minnesota State University,” said Munsterteiger.
