April 23,l 2025 — Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 to demonstrate support for protecting the environment. The event gave students at Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools an opportunity to make a difference by taking action to protect the Earth.

Kindergartners at Hilltop learned about the three R’s – reuse, reduce, recycle. They also made an Earth people project and did a nature walk to look for signs of spring. First graders had lots of fun tie-dyeing Earth and writing about how they can help Earth. Students enjoyed a yummy surprise when the kitchen staff prepared “dirt cake” complete with gummy worms!

Shirley Hills first graders made Earth Day headbands and helped pick up garbage around the school grounds during recess, along with the kindergarten classes.

“Our students really know how to take care of our school community!” said Dean of Students Beth Hausladen.
