BeLikeTommy Project, Sue Rodelius Honored with Ann Bremer White Hawks Award

April 10, 2025—Westonka Public Schools is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Ann Bremer White Hawks Award, honoring the BeLikeTommy Project and Sue Rodelius for their outstanding service and commitment to the district and its students. This prestigious annual award recognizes individuals or groups who have made a significant, positive impact on the Westonka Schools community.

The Ann Bremer White Hawks Award is named in honor of Ann Bremer, a beloved former member of the Westonka School Board who served from 2004 until her passing in 2017. Throughout her tenure, Bremer was an influential leader in the Westonka community, offering steadfast contributions as a district parent, community member, and school board member. Each year, the award recipients are recognized for their leadership in positively impacting the lives and experiences of students and their families and advancing the mission and vision of the school district.

BeLikeTommy Project

The BeLikeTommy Project was established in memory of Tommy Nash, a ninth grade student at Mound Westonka High School who tragically passed away from sudden cardiac arrest in 2021. Tommy’s parents, Kevin and Nicole Nash, founded the project as a way to honor their son’s legacy and make a lasting difference in the Westonka community.

In 2022, the Nash family launched the inaugural BeLikeTommy Olympic Speedwalk and Golden Gala–signature events designed to raise funds for the purchase of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for Westonka and neighboring schools.

Since then, the BeLikeTommy Project has expanded its efforts, organizing additional initiatives such as a sand volleyball tournament and a “Tommy's Trees” fundraiser to support local nonprofits like the Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN). Their fundraising efforts have also helped provide enriching, joyful experiences for Westonka students and families.

Notably, in 2023, the BeLikeTommy Project helped to put on a free heart screening at the Westonka Activity Center for all students and young adults aged 14-24. In addition, the project established an annual scholarship for graduating Westonka seniors, ensuring Tommy’s legacy lives on through continued support of the school community.

Sue Rodelius

Sue Rodelius has been a dedicated volunteer for Westonka Public Schools for nearly two decades. Her contributions have spanned several areas, with a notable focus on the Mound Wrestling Organization (MWO), where she served on the board for 18 years, many of those as MWO president.

Rodelius’ leadership has played a key role in raising significant funds for the organization, securing more than $10,000 annually through various fundraisers such as golf tournaments, omelette breakfasts, and the popular “Rent a Wrestler” program. In addition to her board duties, Rodelius served as MWO’s resident photographer, capturing cherished memories for White Hawks wrestlers and their families. Her volunteerism has also extended to the district’s baseball and football programs.

The 2025 Ann Bremer White Hawks Award winners will be recognized at the Westonka Public Schools Staff and Retiree Recognition Event on May 2. They will also be recognized at a fall football game.
