December 5, 2024 — Students at Grandview Middle School participated in Turkey Bingo the Wednesday before Thanksgiving during Morning Meeting. This popular annual event, enjoyed possibly more by the staff than the students, is a great way to head into the Thanksgiving break.

This year’s event featured a special guest bingo caller. Westonka Activities Director and former GMS Dean of Students Jeff Peterson drew the bingo numbers and called them over the intercom so that everyone could play at the same time. Although it had been a decade since his last bingo call, Peterson was not afraid to “wing” it.

Students who got a bingo had to flap their arms and gobble like a turkey as they made their way to one of the prize tables in the hall by the office. That particular activity was embraced by at least some of the students. The Student Council provided a fun assortment of prizes like fidget toys, squish toys, pencils, slime and more.

Grandview math teacher Megan Lhotka said turkey bingo is her “favorite day of the year!” Staff members weren’t sure how long the tradition of Turkey Bingo has been around, but estimates varied between 15 and 50 years.
