Westonka Community Ed Coordinator Carley Olsem Receives Statewide Award

Minnesota Community Education Association Executive Director Matt Dickhausen presented Carley Olsem with the Community Educator of Excellence award Oct. 24 during the 2024 MCEA Fall Conference

October 30, 2024 — Carley Olsem, Westonka Community Education enrichment and operations coordinator, has been honored as a 2024 Community Educator of Excellence award winner for Region 3 by the Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA). 

The MCEA is a professional community of educators dedicated to highlighting the impact of community education on individuals, families and communities throughout Minnesota. Each year, the association recognizes outstanding community educators who go above and beyond to positively impact their local communities. These individuals are the unsung heroes whose dedication and tireless efforts enhance the lives of community members by providing valuable education and resources.

Olsem was nominated for the award by Westonka Community Education & Services Director Scott Lhotka. “Carley is an exceptional community educator who consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership, program coordination, and an unwavering commitment to her colleagues and participants,” Lhotka stated in his nomination. “She actively mentors community education instructors, contributes to new program development for all ages, and engages with the community to foster a culture of lifelong learning."

“Her innovative ideas and ability to create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment have profoundly impacted the growth of both her staff and participants,” Lhotka added.

MCEA Executive Director Matt Dickhausen presented Olsem with the Community Educator of Excellence award during the 2024 MCEA Fall Conference Awards Luncheon, held Oct. 24 in Duluth.
