Update Skyward Family Access to Receive School Alerts
October 24, 2024 — At 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, Westonka Public Schools will be conducting a test of its parent notification system for weather-related closings and delays.
Student safety is the district's No. 1 priority when making weather-related school closing decisions. Before deciding to close or delay school, Superintendent Kevin Borg consults with the National Weather Service and other experts inside and outside the district.
For the first weather-related school closing of the 2024-25 school year, Westonka plans to hold a traditional "snow day" for all students and staff. The district will enact the eLearning Day Plan starting with the second weather-related school closing of the year. eLearning Day announcements will be made as early as possible and no later than 2 hours prior to the start of the school day. In the event of a weather-related late start or early release, the eLearning Day Plan will not be utilized. When possible, early release decisions on a school day will be made by noon.
School closing information will be communicated through:
- Parent/staff notification system (automated voicemail & text message)
- District and school websites
- Social Media (Facebook and Twitter)
- Local Media Outlets - WCCO-AM 830, WCCO-TV Channel 4, KSTP-TV Channel 5, KARE-TV Channel 11, FOX-TV Channel 9
Review and Update Your Contact Information
Westonka Schools asks that all families use Skyward Family Access to ensure that the district has the most current phone numbers and e-mail addresses in the event of a weather-related closing or other announcement sent through ParentSquare. To make sure that you are receiving these alerts, please take the following steps:
- Log into Skyward Family Access with your username and password
- Select "My Account" from the top right of the screen.
- Under “Account Settings” you will see all of the email and phone numbers that are entered. This is the contact information that will be used in ParentSquare. Please Note: The “Phone” number might not match your specific phone number, but it should be someone’s phone number in your family. This is the primary family phone number.
- Once you have many any changes, select "Save"
