October 3, 2024 — Mound Westonka High School Theatre is proud to present “The Man Who Came to Dinner” at the Westonka Performing Arts Center Oct. 25-27. “The Man Who Came to Dinner” is a classic American comedy play written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. It premiered on Broadway in 1939 and has since become a popular and enduring piece in the world of American theater.

The play revolves around the character of Sheridan Whiteside, a famous and acerbic radio personality, who, while on a lecture tour in the small town of Mesalia, injures himself and is forced to recuperate in the home of a local family, the Stanleys. The Stanley family’s lives are turned upside down as Whiteside takes over their house, turning it into a chaotic and comedic whirlwind.

As Whiteside makes himself at home, he receives numerous colorful guests, causing a series of misadventures and hilarious situations. The play is known for its witty dialogue, clever humor, and satirical portrayal of celebrity culture. The characters are eccentric and memorable, and the play explores themes of celebrity, loyalty, and the impact of one person’s presence on the lives of those around them.

The 18-member cast and 12-member crew are led by director Joe Lawrence, assistant director Jamie Harms, and technical director Josh Barnd.

The production will be presented on October 25 and 26 at 7 p.m. and October 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets go on sale October 8 on the Westonka PAC website or MWHS Linktree.
