September 25, 2024 — Perfect fall weather contributed to a memorable week of Westonka Homecoming 2024 activities. From the coronation of Homecoming Queen Sylvi Kantola and King Rohan Nella to the parade and a host of athletic competitions, enthusiastic crowds and events designed for the entire community contributed to an exciting week.

“Homecoming 2024 was a fantastic experience for our students this year,” said Mound Westonka High School Principal Jolene Herfel. As school started, Herfel challenged students to “Show Ourselves” in a manner that honors their best self and represents MWHS in a positive way.

“Our students met and exceeded the challenge with a week full of energy and spirit,” said Herfel. “They went all in for our dress up days, cheered to the top of their lungs at the pep fest, showed energetic sportsmanship in the stands and danced to the very end of our homecoming dance in the courtyard.”

The annual alumni breakfast on Friday morning attracted alumni from generations of Westonka classes to reminisce and share their stories. Alumni enjoyed breakfast, a photo montage of classes through the years, as well as some student and alumni speakers.

Westonka’s athletic teams hosted neighboring schools during the week, while students in each of the schools took part in daily dress-up days and other activities. Friday was a day of celebration and pride, as students throughout the district wore their White Hawks apparel and participated in the pep fest, parade, and carnival. Entire families gathered to watch the many different participants in the parade, from groups and activities within Westonka Schools, to businesses in the Westonka community.

An overflowing crowd gathered Friday night for the football game between Mound Westonka and Providence Academy. In a tough matchup, Providence Academy took home a 14-3 win over the White Hawks.

Student Senate members and advisors Erica Boyles and Emily Morrow put many hours of service into making Homecoming Week truly memorable for all.

“I could not be more proud of Student Senate leaders who created memorable events for our entire school,” said Herfel.
