September 4, 2024 — The Link Team was eager for 114 junior and senior Link Crew leaders to come together on August 25 for training to lead the eighth grade Welcome Orientation held on the morning of August 28. Over 90 percent of incoming eighth-grade students were either picked up by school bus transportation or were dropped off at the high school for the events that morning.

The 8th grade class and Link Leaders came in with energy and enthusiasm, which led to a very positive, upbeat orientation morning. The leaders were genuinely excited to welcome the eighth grade Class of 2029 to MWHS. All leaders wore their Link Crew T-shirts at both orientation and on the first day of school to help eighth graders and all new students to MWHS find their classes, open lockers, and begin to feel comfortable at their new school.

Link Crew leaders will continue to meet with eighth and ninth graders monthly during WIN (What I Need) time on Thursdays. This time is intended to support the whole student during his or her high school transition, looking at education and connection beyond the traditional classroom.

“The Link Team received multiple comments from teachers observing positive leadership and interactions in the classroom during small group activities,” said Dean of Students Jenifer Bormes. “Our leaders took the initiative to step in and help where needed throughout the morning, which was amazing to see!”

Advisors Molly Carlson and Meagan Lenz are working with the senior leaders this year, while Wendy Richards and Sara Schwartz advise the junior leaders.
