February 12, 2024 — Grandview Middle School administrative assistant Melissa Murphy has been named the February 2024 recipient of the Westonka Way Award. The monthly award celebrates non-licensed Westonka Public Schools staff members who go above and beyond for families, students and other staff—because that's the Westonka Way!
Murphy started out working as an attendance general office clerk and lunchroom monitor at Grandview in 2005. She moved into her current role as administrative assistant to the principal in February 2020.
“Melissa is not only an incredible administrative assistant, she is an incredible advocate and supporter of Westonka Schools,” wrote a nominator. “She goes above and beyond in her role - staying late and coming in early - just to make sure students and staff are well-cared for.”
“Not everyone is cut out for middle school students, but [Murphy] is so positive and focuses on all the fun and amazing things our students do,” the nominator added. “We cannot be more lucky to have her leading (yes, leading!) our school.”
On Monday morning, Superintendent Kevin Borg was joined by Grandview Principal Christy Zachow, Assistant Principal Nick David to present Murphy with a special plaque and two gift certificates for the Al & Alma’s Signature Sunday Brunch Cruise on Lake Minnetonka.
The Westonka Way Award will be presented monthly throughout the school year. To nominate a non-licensed employee for the award, please use the Google Form.
