May 23, 2023 — Over 30 parents and community members stepped up to serve on the Career Day Panel at Grandview Middle School on May 18. The school’s seventh graders were tasked with preparing a list of questions for a panel of local volunteers to answer about a career they may be interested in learning more about.

Students selected two fields and interviewed two separate panels from the following choices: Information Systems, Communication, and Art; Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technology; Health Sciences; Human Services and Education; Business, Management, and Administration; and Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Civil Engineering.

Volunteer panelists included a graphic designer, structural engineer, pilot, physical therapist, physician, certified veterinary technician, attorney, social worker, marketing consultant, real estate agent, construction superintendent, and several more.

“It’s a great way to get kids to start thinking about career aspirations and the educational path needed to get there,” said Principal Christy Zachow, who thanked all the panelists who volunteered for the event.

Career Day is part of the school’s post-secondary readiness program.
