Minnesota Legislature Moves to Fund School Breakfast, Lunch for all Students Starting in 2023-24 School Year
A message from Director of Food and Nutrition Services Laura Metzger
Starting in the 2023-24 school year, school breakfast and lunch meals will be fully funded for all students in Minnesota. Providing free, healthy school meals to all students will be a great support for many in our communities.
We understand that for some families, this relief cannot come soon enough. If your family is struggling to fund school meals for the remainder of this school year, please consider contacting the Westonka Foodies office to discuss options to help cover the cost of breakfast and lunch.
Westonka's meal program and style of service will likely remain very similar next year. We will continue to offer whole grains, 100% lean muscle protein items, local fruits and vegetables when available, and fresh cold milk. Students will continue to use their PINs when moving through the lines, and a la carte items will be available for purchase for students who need additional food or beverages to help them feel satisfied.
Staff meals will continue to be charged; the rate will be determined later this summer.
Please watch for emails and communication from Westonka Foodies in May 2023 with important program details. Included in the May communication will be information for families regarding how/when to request school meal account refunds.
Sincerely,
