November 30, 2022 — Mound Westonka High School students found multiple ways to thank their favorite teachers and staff members during Staff Appreciation Week, held the week of November 14 in conjunction with American Education Week. Organized by Student Senate, the week’s activities were designed to make each MWHS staff member feel special.
To start the week, Senate members came in on Sunday to decorate halls and doors in each department to express how the students feel about staff. On Monday morning, Senate hosted a coffee cart, sponsored by Caribou Coffee in Mound and Cold Brew, where staff members were invited to help themselves to coffee.
Throughout the week, students completed staff shout-out cards that were later delivered to the staff. These shout-outs were a great way for students to show their appreciation and respect to the staff in the building, including teachers, custodians, administration, paras, food services staff and more. On Thursday, mid-day snack bins were set up for all staff members to enjoy.
“Our staff does so much for our school and our community, we couldn’t be more thankful for them,” said senior Serenity Bownik, Student Senate president. “From our teachers and counselors to our custodians, our nurse, food service employees, and paraprofessionals - we couldn’t imagine a better place to go to school! It was an honor to appreciate them!”
Senior leaders from Student Senate delivered personalized red travel coffee mugs filled with a K-cup and tea bag to each staff member. The gifts also came with a handwritten thank-you note written by a student.
“I love it when students show their love and appreciation for our staff! Student Senate continues to think of MWHS staff members and create new and unique ways to celebrate them,” said Assistant Principal Marty Fischer. “Thanks, Student Senate, for recognizing the amazing staff that I get to work with every single day!”
