September 14, 2022 — Student artists from Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools, as well as Grandview Middle School, participated in the annual art competition at the Minnesota State Fair this summer. The Westonka District has historically had a high number of ribbon winners at the fair, and this year was no exception. Westonka students brought home dozens of ribbons, despite stiff competition from across the state.
Artworks that are of exceptional quality and/or innovativeness are chosen by district art teachers for the state exhibit. Each year, the art department enters dozens of pieces in a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and even digital art. All the district’s art teachers were proud of their students’ success.
“I feel honored to submit our students' artwork to the Fair, and grateful to the Westonka community for supporting our young artists,” said Klair Hans, Hilltop Primary School art teacher. “Having the hard work of Hilltop students displayed for millions of Minnesotans to see is the highlight of my summer!”
Grandview art teacher Hannah Loucks said that the majority of her students’ artwork now is on display at the school in the display case by the alley doors.
The art departments hope that Westonka families were able to stop by the Education Building at the fair to view all the beautiful ribbon-winning artwork.
