American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) Kicks Off Sept. 29
September 13, 2022 — The Westonka Public Schools American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) is made up of parents/guardians, grandparents and other family members of American Indian students, as well as community members that have an American Indian affiliation. The committee’s mission is to develop a deeper understanding of the academic and social-emotional needs of American Indian children in order to support a positive and engaging learning experience at school and to celebrate American Indian students’ cultural heritage.
Per Minnesota statute, a school district in which there are 10 or more American Indian students enrolled must establish an American Indian education parent advisory committee. There is no cost to participate in AIPAC.
AIPAC will be hosting a variety of events during the 2022-23 school year to provide American Indian students and their families opportunities to form friendships and learn about their culture. The kick-off event is scheduled for Thursday, September 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Westonka Educational Service Center, 5901 Sunnyfield Road E, Minnetrista. A light dinner will be served, and the evening will include activities for students and an overview of the committee’s plans for the 2022-23 school year. Please come as a family if you are available that evening.
Please contact Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Mark Femrite at femritem@westonka.k12.mn.us with any questions about AIPAC or the event.
