Road to Reopening Parent, Staff Surveys

July 17, 2020 — Westonka Public Schools is deep into planning for the 2020-2021 school year and for how we will adapt our school system to meet our current reality and climate. As Westonka Superintendent Kevin Borg shared in his communication on June 18, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has asked all Minnesota districts to prepare for three different scenarios—distance learning, in-person learning and a hybrid model.

MDE has put together a helpful summary of the three scenarios: Guidance for Families – Planning for the 2020-21 School Year

Any of these scenarios could apply at different times during the 2020-2021 school year, based on the changing health landscape. Individual schools and districts may also be directed by the state to switch educational models during the year in reaction to COVID-19 cases in their communities.

MDE will come out with its official guidelines for how Westonka should start the school year by the week of July 27.

Your feedback is needed!

A critical component to building our learning models is understanding the diverse needs, expectations, concerns and desires of our families, students and staff. The district has created surveys that we hope every Westonka family and staff member will take time to complete by July 26.

Parent Survey (If you have a middle or high school student, we encourage you and your student to take the survey together)

Staff Survey

Westonka is committed to delivering high quality education in a positive and safe learning environment, whatever that may look like in 2020-2021. Your feedback is crucial to help ensure we have the information we need to prepare for the school year.

The district will send email communication to parents/staff after MDE guidelines are announced. In the meantime, have a wonderful summer!
