September 17, 2019 — It's fall – and that means Homecoming! The entire Westonka community is invited to participate in Mound Westonka High School’s Homecoming 2019 next week.

Homecoming Week kicks off with the coronation ceremony of the Homecoming king and queen on Monday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. in the MWHS gym. This year’s queen candidates include seniors Melissa Drill, Lily Hames, Kiera Johnson, Chloe Kantola, Olivia Martel, Samantha Otto and Callyn Tice. Seniors Seth Anderson, Ryan Fitz, Noah Lietzau, Calvin MacKell, Charles Nesbitt, Cameron Oates and Nicholas Stanberry are in the running for Homecoming king.

Homecoming will feature dress-up days based on the theme of “A Netflix Original.” Show your Westonka pride on Monday with "Friends" Day – dress like your friends, twin/clone day. Later that day, the boys soccer team will host Jordan at 5 p.m. at Haddorff Field, followed by the girls soccer team facing Jordan at 7 p.m.

Tuesday is "Stranger Things" – decade/retro day. Wednesday is "Gossip Girl" – college comfy day.

On Thursday, "Parks & Recreation" versus "The Office" will pit outdoor wear against office wear. That night, the soccer teams will square off at Haddorff Field again when the boys face Mayer Lutheran at 5 p.m. and the girls host Watertown Mayer at 7 p.m. The volleyball team will also host New London-Spicer at 7 p.m. in the MWHS gym.

"Friday Night Lights" is the theme for Friday, which means show off your extreme spirit wear. The Fourth Annual Homecoming Alumni Breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m., followed by the pep fest at 9:53 a.m. The Homecoming parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Hilltop Primary School and ends at Haddorff Field. A community carnival and tailgating activities will take place on the front lawn of the football field following the parade until the beginning of the big game, when MWHS will host Richfield at 7 p.m. The annual bonfire will begin during the fourth quarter and end at approximately 11 p.m.

The week’s activities wrap up on Saturday night at the semi-formal Homecoming dance for students in grades 9-12 in the MWHS courtyard and cafeteria from 8 to 11 p.m. Pre-sale tickets will be sold during lunches Sept. 23-27 at a cost of $8 or $15 with a Super Fan T-Shirt. Dance tickets will be $12 at the door.

The MWHS Student Council has been working hard on this year’s celebration and invites the community to come out and celebrate Homecoming 2019.
