Westonka is Second in State Math Assessments, Seventh in Reading

September 12, 2019 — According to data released in August by the Minnesota Department of Education, Westonka Public Schools remains a high academic performer, with students scoring among the top districts in the state on the spring 2019 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) and Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS). Overall, Westonka had the second highest percent proficient in math in the state (78 percent) and the seventh highest percent proficient in reading (77 percent) of districts testing at least 100 students in a grade level.

"I am really proud of our students and staff with the 2019 state testing results,” said Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Mark Femrite. “It is a testament to our implementation of best practices around student learning to address students' academic needs in timely and effective ways."

Westonka Schools had 10 grade-level MCA results in the Top 10 across the state, including No. 1-in-state math scores in grades 6 and 7. A summary of Westonka's 2019 scores can be found on the Test Results web page.

SchoolDigger.com recently ranked Westonka Public Schools 12th out of 452 districts in the state-based primarily on the 2019 MCA/MTAS results. Additionally, all four Westonka schools - Hilltop Primary School, Shirley Hills Primary School, Grandview Middle School and Mound Westonka High School - as well as the school district received five stars (the highest possible rating) from the school ranking website.

Westonka is similarly ranked in the 2020 “Best School Districts in Minnesota” list released in August by Niche. Westonka is No. 16 on Niche’s ranking of 342 Minnesota districts, and all four Westonka schools and the school district received “A” grades from the ranking and review website. Additionally, MWHS ranks 12th out of Minnesota’s 853 high schools on the 2019 U.S. News & World Report "Best High Schools" list.
