September 3, 2019 — The Mound Westonka High School art department is excited to begin a new tradition by hosting a high-caliber juried exhibit for high school artists. The 2019 #WestonkArts High School Juried Art Exhibit will be on display at the Performing Arts Center from Sept. 3 through Nov. 1.
MWHS has phased out the Minnesota State Fair art competition in favor of hosting a select art exhibit at the PAC. According to art teacher Sara Strother, this show is a juried selection of some of the strongest and most innovative art created in MWHS art classes last year.
“We are SUPER excited to be starting this new tradition, which we feel better celebrates our students and their artwork in such a wonderful venue, which is local and much more accessible to our community,” said art teacher Laura Hensley.
The exhibit will feature an opening reception that will kick off Homecoming Week on Sept. 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Professional artists Heidi Hoy and Alissa McCourt have been invited as guest jurors. They will be choosing select artworks to earn special awards, which will be revealed in time for the Opening Reception, which is free and open to the public.
