April 15, 2019 — Mound Westonka High School students who exhibited outstanding effort, citizenship and academic achievement for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year were honored at the Distinguished Student Breakfast at the high school April 12.

Instead of recognizing quarterly honorees as in the past, teachers are now asked to name a distinguished student in each broad subject area for each grade level each semester, or twice per school year.

These students and their parents are invited to a breakfast where each teacher's nomination is read to the group and each student is introduced. This long-time tradition is planned and hosted by a faculty committee. Photos of the honored students are housed in the display case near the north doors of the high school for the next semester.

Honored at the April 12 breakfast were eighth-graders Ilana Andrev, Earth Science; Abby Hollenstein, Advanced Global Studies; Mackenzie Kuhl, English 8; Zane Rice, Concert Band, and Laura Sunnarborg, Advanced English 8; and ninth-graders Izzy Embery-Braun, Speech 9; Andrew Hunter, Honors English 9; Quinn Jenson, Algebra 2X; Elijah Meadows, Health 9; and Anna Reier, Intro to Marketing.

Also recognized was sophomore Assata King, English 10; along with juniors Blake Dekarski, World History; Kate McGown, AP World History; Megan Stacey, English 11, and Ari Zahasky, Accounting; and seniors Grace Elling, AP Calculus BC; Katrin Hafner, WALA English; Kris Kurtz, Choir; Charlie Reinhardt, AP Calculus BC; and Breanna Reyes, Ceramics I.

Congratulations to these hard-working students!
