March 13, 2019 —The Art Educators of Minnesota's Youth Art Month exhibition reception was held March 9 at the Minnesota State Capitol. Four Westonka students were presented with awards, including Hilltop Primary School fourth-grader Darren Croutseng, first-place in the elementary division; Hilltop third-grader Brynn Hiivala, second-place in the elementary division; Grandview Middle School seventh-grader Logan Henslin, first-place in the middle school division; and Mound Westonka High School senior Nick Drilling, honorable mention in the high school level.

"Not only was our students' artwork displayed in this beautiful space, we also got to hear the new Commissioner of Education, Mary Cathryn Ricker, speak about the importance of art in children's lives," said Hilltop art teacher Klair Hans. "We couldn't be more proud!”

Several other Westonka students also had artworks included in the two-week exhibit, including Hilltop first-graders Dylan Carlson and Suzanna Davis; Grandview seventh-graders Rachel Erickson and Zoe Meadows; MWHS ninth-grader Olivia Henningsgaard and sophomore Ryan Allen.

The Youth Art Month State Student Exhibition is a long-standing tradition of the Art Educators of Minnesota to recognize and promote the achievements of student artists throughout the State of Minnesota.

Congratulations to these talented artists!
