March 11, 2019 — The Mound Westonka High School Rotary Interact Club sponsored the second annual Stick It To Hunger hockey event on Feb. 24 at the Shirley Hills Primary School outdoor rink. The event was organized to raise food for the Westonka Food Shelf. The teams braved 30 mph winds and subzero weather and together collected almost 300 pounds of food.
"As the advisor of the Interact Club, I could not be prouder of the efforts put forth by the members to make this program a huge success," said Gary Wollner. "There is nothing better than having a large number of students get together and have a great time supporting our local food shelf."
The Mound Westonka Rotary Interact Club was founded in 2014 with the goal of bringing together dedicated high school students and local business leaders to exchange ideas, build relationships and serve the community. Last year, the club was awarded the Presidential Citation Award from Rotary International for its work in performing three service projects over the course of the year - one at the local level, one at the national level and one at the international level. Stick It To Hunger marked the fourth service event that the Interact Club has sponsored during the 2018-2019 school year.
