April 8, 2021 — Mound Westonka High School ninth-grader August Schaefer will participate in the statewide MBDA Honor Band on Saturday, April 17. Schaefer, an alto saxophone player, was selected via audition for the event, which features talented young musicians from across the state.
The Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) 9-10 Honor Band is an opportunity for musicians to join together virtually this year to provide unique musical experiences and learning opportunities with exceptional conductors and clinicians. The auditions are very competitive and it’s a great honor to be chosen, according to MWHS band director Gretchen Chilson.
"I'm so proud of August for his hard work and preparation,” said Chilson. “He has earned this honor with many hours of lessons and practice, and I know he'll do a great job of representing Westonka at this event!"
The day will include sessions with MBDA conductors and virtual sectionals. Students also submitted recordings of their honor band music to be compiled into a Virtual Honor Band recording to commemorate the event.
