Sixth Grade Math Masters Bring Home Tournament Awards
Math Masters earned tournament awards at Chaska on February 28.
March 5, 2025 — The Grandview Middle School sixth grade Math Masters competed against 13 teams with over 70 individual participants in a tournament at Chaska Middle School East on February 28.
“Every year we go into the Math Masters competition confident we will place well,” said math teacher Brent Reinbold. “This group worked hard, and the hard work paid off with many Top-10 places. I am proud of these 15 students and appreciate their effort!”
GMS students took home six of the top 15 places in the Individual Fact Drill competition. Placing for GMS were Calvin Weegman in third, Ben Santiago in fourth, Cameron Leinfielder in fifth, Dannie Hays in seventh, Matthais Hill in 11th, and Carter Ahlers in 12th. Earning awards in the Overall Individuals competition were Weegman in eighth, Ben Roche in 10th, Ahlers in 18th and Edison Strong in 20th.
In the Team Round, second place went to the team of Ahlers, Carter Andrews, Weegman, Leinfelder, and Roche.
The Math Masters mathematics competition program challenges fourth, fifth and sixth grade students to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics. Students compete as individuals and in teams in eight rounds of competition held in March and April each year. Students’ academic effort and achievement are recognized with plaques, medallions, and ribbons in each competition element: Fact Drill, Individual Round and Team Competition.
