May 10, 2022 — Two teams of Westonka students competed at the Minnesota Destination Imagination (DI) Affiliate Tournament April 23 at Coon Rapids Middle School. Westonka had teams in both the Elementary Level and Middle Level competitions.
Both teams competed in the Engineering Challenge - Roll With It. Teams had to create a structure that could roll down a ramp before holding as much weight as possible. This season’s Engineering Challenge gave teams a chance to show how a legend is made. Project requirements included:
- Design and build a structure that can roll down a ramp and collide with the structure tester.
- Test the structure by placing weights on it.
- Create and present a story about how a character becomes a legend.
- Design and build a rotating object.
- Create and present two Team Choice Elements that show off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength, and talents.
Team Inside the Toolbox placed sixth at the Elementary Level. Team members include Carter Savstrom, Max Syndergaard, Dannie Hays, Ben Windy, Piper Pederson, Luke Burton and Isla Ness.
At the Middle Level, Team Gulp earned second place with team members Maddie Hays, Madi Hillebert, Eva Savstrom, Toby Fleener, Kellen Mueller and Louisa Johnson.
