December 2, 2019 — Educational paraprofessional Kathleen Danielson has been named the November 2019 recipient of the Westonka Way Award. The monthly award celebrates non-licensed Westonka Schools staff members who go above and beyond for families, students and other staff — because that's the Westonka Way!
Danielson has worked for Westonka Public Schools in various capacities since 2011, starting as a cashier at Grandview Middle School before transitioning to a paraprofessional role. She has worked as a kindergarten paraprofessional at Hilltop Primary School and as a special education paraprofessional at both the Early Childhood Center and at Grandview, where she has now worked for almost three years.
A nominator wrote of Danielson: "I have been blessed to work with lots of incredible people during my time in Westonka. So many stand out as hard-working, kind and dedicated. However, Kathleen is in a category by herself."
The nominator praised Danielson’s work with students in the Setting III program at Grandview. "What Kathleen gets is that these kids desperately need unconditional love - and so she gives it to them," the nominator wrote. "Her capacity for forgiveness and empathy is like nothing I have ever seen before. As far as I am concerned, she is an angel walking on this earth, sent here to love the kids who need it most - despite the fact that they ask for it in the worst possible ways. I am so grateful to have her on our team."
On Monday morning, Westonka Superintendent Kevin Borg, Grandview Principal Christy Zachow, Westonka Director of Special Services Meredith Boo and Grandview special education teacher Breanna Wollner presented Danielson with a special plaque and two gift certificates for the Al & Alma’s Signature Sunday Brunch Cruise on Lake Minnetonka.
The Westonka Way Award will be presented monthly throughout the school year. To nominate a non-licensed employee for the award, please use the Google Form.
