Westonka Friends of the Arts to Present 'A Day of the Arts'

A day of the arts logo May 31, 2019 — The Westonka Friends of the Arts are thrilled to be supporting this summer’s production of “The Music Man” and look forward to introducing it to the community as part of a special event. A Day of the Arts, focusing on a broad range of music styles, including musical theater, will be presented from 1:45 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Westonka Performing Arts Center. Sponsored by the Westonka Friends of the Arts (WFA), the program will take place on the PAC stage, the lobby and, weather permitting, in the high school courtyard.

At the event, the community will be able to enjoy a preview of music from Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man,” the Westonka Community Theatre’s first-ever summer musical presented by a talented cast of community members. Other featured acts will include Enso Daiko Japanese drummers at 2 p.m., a Mound Westonka High School musical theatre alumni review and No Information, a group of young musicians performing rock and blues.

The first 50 children to arrive will receive a ticket for a hand drum, and at several points during the day there will be an opportunity to participate in an interactive drum circle. There will be refreshments for sale and information tables about WFA and Westonka Community Theatre, as well as local music studios.

Deborah Jindra, WFA chair, said she is especially excited to host the Japanese drummers. “If you have never seen them perform, you don’t want to miss it.”

The Day of the Arts is free and open to the public.

"The Music Man" will be presented July 25 through 28 at the Westonka Performing Arts Center.
