    Hilltop First Graders Celebrate Reading at 'Starbooks Cafe'

    Hilltop Primary School first graders got to celebrate reading with their "Starbooks Cafe" on May 21.  Students made yummy milk lattes, had cake pops, and “tasted” a fun variety of books at different stations.  “We love reading!” said first grade teacher Michelle Ham.

    In what has become a rite of passage, Westonka's fourth grade students, along with a group of staff and parents, spent an exciting week at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Finland, Minnesota. For the third consecutive year, all the fourth graders from Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools attended Wolf Ridge together the week of May 19-24.

    Westonka students took time to honor and remember our nation’s fallen soldiers by participating in the community Memorial Day service at the Gillespie Center on May 26. The Mound Westonka High School band performed several patriotic numbers, uniformed students from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were on hand, and student readers shared essays they had written.

    Each year, Mound Westonka High School celebrates standout athletes from the graduating class. This year’s celebration took place on May 22, with student-athletes and their parents in attendance. Included in this year’s recognition were the Yost-Haddorff-Leopold and Athena Award nominees and winners, as well as senior three-season athletes, declared college athletes, and state tournament participants.

    NHS Ceremony Celebrates Members' High Standards

    A total of 53 Mound Westonka High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) at a special ceremony for students and their families on May 15. Another 51 seniors, who were inducted into the program last year, were also on hand for special recognition. Senior President Rohan Nella welcomed the visitors to the Westonka Performing Arts Center (PAC) and thanked the parents for their support and hard work.

    MWHS Seniors Receive $469K in Community Scholarships

    Mound Westonka High School hosted the annual Scholarship Awards Night on May 14, when 80 scholarships worth over $469,000 from 48 different donors were awarded to 68 members of the 2025 graduating class. Students and their families gathered in the Westonka Performing Arts Center to accept their scholarships, which came from both the local community and from donors across the country.

    Westonka Public Schools staff and retirees gathered May 2 at the Westonka Performing Arts Center for the annual district recognition event. Emceed by Special Services Director Dr. Emily Rustman and School Board Clerk Loren Davis, the morning program honored staff who had reached years of service milestones, celebrated the building and district Teachers of the Year, recognized the 2025 winners of the Ann Bremer White Hawks Award for community volunteers, and bid farewell to retiring staff.
