    Abby Hollenstein is MWHS Athena Award Winner

    Mound Westonka High School is proud to name senior Abby Hollenstein as the 2023 recipient of the Athena Award. Candidates for this “outstanding female athlete” award must demonstrate excellence in individual or group sports. Hollenstein is a three-sport White Hawks athlete, participating in soccer, basketball, and track and field. Mound Westonka has been celebrating the top female athlete since 1973.

    Westonka District Receives 'Grief-Sensitive Schools' Grant

    Westonka Public Schools, in partnership with Park Nicollet Foundation’s Growing Through Grief Program and Brighter Days Family Grief Center, has received a $2,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation to support the district’s students and families experiencing bereavement and grief after the death of a significant person in their lives.

    MWHS Theatre Invited to Spotlight Showcase

    Mound Westonka High School’s spring production of “The Play That Goes Wrong” was recognized for its accomplishments in high school theater by the Hennepin Theatre Trust as a participant in the Spotlight Education program. The cast and crew of the spring play received an Achievement in Theater honor for their production and are invited to perform a scene or feature from the production at the Spotlight Showcase June 13 at the State Theatre in Minneapolis.

    Hilltop Primary School was excited to host the Imagination Celebration on March 16. Typically held every three years, the celebration has been on hold since 2017 due to the pandemic.     Following a heavy schedule of rehearsals and performances in January and February, Mound Westonka High School band director Gretchen Chilson took Symphonic Band members on a fun one-day local tour on March 9. The day started with performances at Grandview Middle School and Shirley Hills and Hilltop primary schools.

    Excitement filled the halls of the Westonka school buildings on March 10, as students eagerly shared hundreds of food items they collected for the Westonka Food Shelf at the annual “Stuff the Bus” event. A school bus stopped at each school, where students stuffed the bus with food and cash donations collected during the March FoodShare Drive.

    Three to be Interviewed for Vacant Westonka School Board Seat

    Westonka School Board Chair Gary Wollner announced that three individuals will advance to the interview portion of the board's process for appointing someone to fill the remaining term of a seat vacated in January.     The Mound Westonka Tonkabots FIRST Robotics Team took its largest team to date to the Northern Lights Competition last week in Duluth. The Tonkabots had 38 students in grades 9-12 participate in the team event, which was held March 2-4 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
