'Oliver!' Receives Spotlight Education Awards
Mound Westonka High School Theatre and Grandview Middle School Troupers wrapped a successful production of "Oliver!" at the end of November. The classic tale and musical theatre masterpiece received accolades from the Hennepin Theatre Trust Spotlight Education Program in December. This production featured 86 middle and high school students throughout, including the cast, crew, and pit.

Schools Host 2022 Holiday Drives for WeCAN
Students at every school in the Westonka School District embraced the holiday spirit throughout December by collecting a variety of items for families served by the Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN). "Thank you to all of the Westonka students, parents and staff who made donations to WeCAN this season," said WeCAN Executive Director Christopher Anderson.

Jared Chapman Named December Winner of Westonka Way Award
Westonka Public Schools District Operations Specialist Jared Chapman has been named the December 2022 recipient of the Westonka Way Award. The monthly award celebrates non-licensed Westonka Public Schools staff members who go above and beyond for families, students and other staff—because that's the Westonka Way!

Westonka Siblings Scale Mountain in Africa
A trio of Westonka siblings successfully hiked to the third highest peak on Mt. Kenya, the second tallest mountain in Africa, on Dec. 9. Mound Westonka High School sophomore Matthew Mobagi, MWHS eighth grader Valerie Mobagi and Grandview Middle School fifth grader Natalia Mobagi participated in a five-day climb with their family, which included an ascent to the Lenana Point peak.

Students' Imagination on Display at Shirley Hills
Over 40 Shirley Hills Primary School students in grades K-4 participated in the annual Imagination Fair on Dec. 1. This is a fun opportunity for all students to explore, create, and show off their amazing and creative imagination to their friends, family, and teachers.

'Like A Girl' Empowers Young Westonka Women
The "Like A Girl" team at Mound Westonka High School is in its second year of empowering young women in the community. Like A Girl is a DECA Career Development Chapter Project led by seniors Laura Sunnarborg and Avery Roerig, and junior Natalie Miner.

Respect is Theme of Ninth Grade Retreat
Over 195 Mound Westonka High School ninth graders and 59 senior Link Crew leaders took part in the annual Ninth Grade Respect Retreat on Dec. 2 at the Westonka Activity Center. Put on by the nonprofit organization Youth Frontiers, the Respect Retreat inspires students to build a positive community where all students can thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

MWHS Hosts 2022 WeCAN Holiday Drive
Mound Westonka High School Student Senate will be collecting items for WeCAN December 7-14. This season we are looking for much needed personal items to donate to families in the Westonka area. Some items to consider donating are personal care products, household cleaning and paper products.

MWHS Choirs to Present Holiday Concert Dec. 12
The Mound Westonka High School choirs will be performing their annual holiday concert Monday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Westonka Performing Arts Center. A suggested donation of $5 for students/seniors and $10 for adults will be accepted at the door.

The community is invited to the Westonka Community Theatre’s Winter Variety Show. Shows will be presented in Mound Westonka High School’s Little Theater on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 and 7 p.m.
